Snorkeling With Manatees "Tips"

Below you will find helpful tips on our location, local food and lodging that Captain Parker recommends. Listed below is our cancellation policy and our good neighbors policy. Captain Parker and crew wants your family to have a good time, so there are a few rules and tips to help.

You will meet your crew at "Landing 1-H 5297 S Cherokee Way, Homosassa 34448 at the Marina docks. When approaching the 4 way stop sign at the end of your route, turn right into the "Florida Cracker Riverside Resort" and park in the back parking lot behind the first green hotel building. Bring bathings suits, towels, sweatshirts and pants for after the swim and a small cooler if you choose.

Experience Snorkeling With The Manatees, for an experience of a lifetime, the way nature intended.    Below is what you can expect when you visit us for your Manatee swim experience.

Upon arrival, and after signing the necessary paperwork, each guest will change into the rental wetsuits, or their own wetsuits.

Next, all guests and their US Coast Guard Certified Captain/Tour Guide will proceed to the "Landing" area and board our boats to embark on your manatee tour.

While touring the bays and rivers in search of manatees, your Captain/Instructor/guide will teach you about manatees and their habitat, and answer any questions you may have. You may also expect to see: Monkeys, Bald Eagles, dolphins, otters, wild pigs, raccoons and a large array of local snowbirds.

Once the captain has found some friendly manatees, the anchor will be dropped and everyone will quietly enter the water to interact properly ( See Soft Encounters) with the manatees. You may be allowed to take pictures, swim/snorkel with the manatees, and even, if the manatees allow, a perfect photo with these amazing creatures, that is like winning the LOTTO. If you don't want to hassle with taking your own photos, then request our own personal photographer during your online check out. Janice, and her wonderful love for nature and photography will be sure to capture even the rarest moment.

Share your memories and thoughts of your Manatee encounter on your way back to the "Landing".

  • What is the best time of day to swim with the manatees?
In the 80’s when manatee tours started, we assumed we had to get out early to find manatees like other wildlife. We have learned that manatees come and go all day. Early to beat the crowds but all tour times are equally productive. We have a 98% success rate every day.
  • What is the minimum age required to participate?
We recommend children from the ages 2 and up. Must respect the boat rules to participate, this goes for our older (70 and up) children as well.
  • Do I need to know how to swim or snorkel?
We ask that you are comfortable in the water. This is not a snorkeling event like in the Keys or the Bahamas but more like floating with a water noodle viewing the manatees from above.
  • Do I need reservations and how far in advanced if I do?
You will need reservations and we suggest at least a week ahead of time. You can make your reservation on this site for convenience. If you require next day reservation or more than 6 in your group, please call for advanced placement.
  • Do you provide snorkeling gear and wetsuits?
Yes, it is included with your tour. We are required to wear a wetsuit in the refuge, and we have wetsuit sizes from toddler size one to 5X. “We have you covered” !
  • Can you accommodate school groups, clubs and large families?"
Yes, special bookings for our larger groups. Call 352-257-8687 for groups larger than 6.
  • Can I bring my dog?
Yes, only on our private charters. Please advise us at booking. All fur babies must be always in a respectful mood. No excessive barking or swimming allowed while on the tour.
  • Can we take our own photos?
Yes, we have to ask you to be very respectful of the manatees, you will not always get the shot you want. Be patient and allow the manaee to give you the best pose..
  • Can we bring our infant and take turns getting into the water?
Yes, but the infant will still need a ticket to board the boats. We must count each person as a passenger, regardless of age, height, weight or participation.
  • How far are you from the Orlando, Kissimmee and Clearwater Tampa area?"
We are roughly 1.45 hours from Orlando and 1.20 hours from Tampa. 1.45 hours from the Clearwater Area
  • What’s the best Airports to fly into?
    Tampa, St Pete and Orlando
  • Are there Hotels and Restaurants nearby?
Yes, we recommend the Florida Cracker Riverside Resort and there are many others within a few minutes of boarding your boats.
